ATHLETIC TRAINER BIOGRAPHIES
Hal Hilmer, ATC
Originally from the Northeast Ohio area, Mr Hilmer received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education from Bowling Green State University w/ a minor in Athletic Training in 1979. He went on to receive his Master of Science Degree in Health Education at Miami (Ohio) University in 1980. Mr Hilmer started working at John Hersey High School in August of 1980 where he currently serves as Head Athletic Trainer and oversees the Modified Physical Education program. This program is designed to serve those students who cannot participate in the Regular Physical Education curriculum due to a medical condition. He is currently married and has two boys.

Ari Hirschfeld, ATC
Mr. Hirschfeld grew up in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, attending Northern Illinois University. He received his Bachelor Degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Athletic Training in 1996. Mr. Hirschfeld continued his studies at Western Illinois University, receiving a Master of Science in Sports Management. He also obtained teaching credentials in Health, Drivers Education, and Social Science. Mr. Hirschfeld joined the John Hersey Athletic Department in the fall of 2005. He is currently married and has two boys.

David Papez, ATC
Mr. Papez was a born and bread Wisconsinite who is an avid fan and part owner of the Green Bay Packers. He received his Bachelor Degree in Secondary Science with a minor in athletic training from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He became a graduate assistant Athletic Trainer at Iowa State University where he received his Masters of Science degree in Athletic Management. He was head Athletic Trainer at Carl Sandburg High school for 5 years and Head Athletic Trainer at Paducah Tilghman High School for 3 years. He is now a Science teacher at John Hersey High School (Chemistry, Physics, AP Environmental Science) and Assistant Athletic Trainer. During this time he also received his Masters of Arts Degree in Teacher Leadership from Roosevelt University, He is married and has 2 awesome children.
